About us

For Tom and Meg Names, these were more than just lovely platitudes—these were the values they lived every day. Tom was loyal and kind and humble to the core, the kind of man who was everyone’s best friend. He grew up in Tacoma, Washington and played golf and basketball at Stadium High School. He was stationed in South Korea during the Korean conflict. He later attended College of the Puget Sound (now University of Puget Sound.) And that’s where he met Anna Margaret “Meg” Horan.

Meg had grown up on an apple orchard in Wenatchee, Washington. She was active in her church and she loved to ride horses. Kind, smart, and funny, Meg was perfectly matched for Tom. They married and lived in Fircrest, Washington (and then Tacoma) for the rest of their lives. Tom served a member of the local Rotary Club, the president of Fircrest Golf Club and as a board member for the Names Family Foundation. Meg served in the Tacoma Orthopedic Guild and in her church. They also loved to travel and play golf but their true heart lied with their family. Tom and Meg were a regular fixture at their children’s and grandchildren’s athletic events.

This foundation is dedicated to their spirit and to their idea the force of kindness and mercy could move mountains.

MEET THE BOARD

ERIN SHAGREN

Erin serves on the board of Mary Bridge Children’s Foundation. She also serves the University of Puget Sound as a trustee and sits on the Philanthropic Advisory Council for the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties. Erin is a trustee of The Names Family Foundation and a former Elder of University Place Presbyterian Church. Erin also serves on the board of trustees for the Seven Acres Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of South Puget Sound.

MONICA NAMES-KING

Monica Names-King serves on the board of trustees for the Names Family Foundation, Mary Bridge Children’s Foundation, the University of Portland and the First Tee of South Puget Sound. She is a past Elder for University Place Presbyterian Church and was president of the Sunset Elementary PTA.
